OK my sweet peeps let’s get down to the real nitty gritty with this case study on how to increase blog traffic. No tutu fluff around here. Let’s talk straight. Wow! Like all those phrases? Doesn’t make you feel better when a person says, “I’m going to tell it to you straight?” I always think, ” So you were fibbing all the rest of the time?” No, of course not I always tell it straight on my blog. Many of you write with questions about how to increase blog traffic. I’ve done a few videos they are weekly and they are EVERY Wednesday so don’t miss them. They are filled with resources and tips that I’ve researched for you and have used myself to make more money and grow my business and my blog. Weird how life works. We launch a blog or business to spend more time with our families, you know work for ourselves, make our own hours, stay home with our kids. But before you know it we’re checking emails in the middle of the night, hopping on the computer between stirring the sauce, and telling our man, “Yea I’m coming to bed in 5 more minutes.”  Which for me turns into an hour or more. So with all this cool technology at our finger tips every moment of every day sometimes our other relationships  can suffer.  I am speaking from experience because I love working on my projects, doing videos for you , sending out my newsletter and writing books to help you blog like my Get Famous The Most Amazing Mom Blogger’s Resource On The Planet.  But the reality is without a family and relationships who cares about everything else?

So here are my quick tips to keep the home fire burning and put out an other fires that could be started from being over worked and not paying attention to those who matter most.

Learn how to shut it down.

When you’re working, work hard.  When your done make sure you’re done. That means as hard as it is at times, no texting , entering giveaways, one more blog post or anything else. Just spend time with your family and shut it down. And you can’t be shut down if you are thinking about everything else that you need to get done. Practice letting go of your tasks and enjoy you’re family.

Give your undivided attention

I’m totally guilty of this one. Poor Chad ( my husband) will talk and then say, “Babe did you even hear me.” Sadly I have to say no. I was pre-occupied or thinking about  a project I’m in the middle of or whatever. But my husband really deserves my undivided attention so I need to give it up- figuratively and literally.

Have an “OFF” day.

That means the whole Sha-Bang. No texting, no messages, no posting, no blogging, no twitter, no Face-booking no nothing. Just you and your family and a park or festival, or some ducks or whatever. But if it’s electronic don’t even turn it on.

Go have fun

I mean some real screaming, laughing till you ….(well you know what;), hair raising fun. You will feel so refreshed by the time you come back I’m sure your blog posts will be much better.

Finally just remember that we only have so many days on this beautiful planet with those we love. When life is over and we are in those final seconds I am totally positive that no one says, “OOO I forgot that blog post,” “Man I should have done that giveaway,” ” UGH I forgot to do that product launch.”  No no one says that. But everyone thinks, ” I hope I told my family how much I love them. As a first time mom I’m watching Matilda grow like a weed before my eyes. It’s so fast I almost can’t believe it. One minute she can barely turn her little head and now she walks around with the phone to her ear mimicking mommy on the phone- Amazing!  I’ll never get these precious moments back with her. And you won’t get yours back with those you love either. I think that balance is a silly word sometimes. And I don’t know too many people who figure that one out. But we can be fully present for those who matter most. So don’t forget in the midst of it all that your business or your blog was probably started as a means to spend more time with your family. So note to self,”Make sure that I do.”

I’ve been doing some amazing research lately. I know that when I share what I’ve discovered it will help you in your business as well. I’ve told you before that I created a baby product and that product has now been submitted to Huggies for the Mom Inspired Grant Program. They offer $15,000 seed money. We’ll see how that goes in the future. One of the things I’ve noticed not only with my own projects but with others as well is that many of you have amazing ideas but you’re not sure how to turn that idea into a profit. Is that true? The most important decision you can make to bridge the gap between idea and profit is follow through. You have to start. Just take the first step. Even if you are clueless about the other steps that’s OK. My own experience has taught me that by taking the first step the other steps become clear.  When I made my baby product each step I took led me to the next and so the “process guided my way”.  Sometimes we get paralyzed in the “I don’t know” stage. We look at all of the factors and things that we don’t know and it become so big that we get overwhelmed and then just quit before we even begin.  I am quite positive that most successful entrepreneurs are “learn as they go”. They never have it all figured out but they don’t allow that to stop them.

Some people want to have it all mapped out and know every answer before they even begin. I don’t think that’s possible or productive because as you launch a product or business your plans have to bend and accommodate what you are creating. Your vision may change. In order to bridge the gap between idea and profit you should follow these few simple tips:

Start

You will learn so much more by doing then you will by thinking. Yes have a plan mapped out  but put action to that plan immediately and don’t wait for everything to be perfect. Apple didn’t when they launched Siri- she’s a hot mess but she’s still very cool.

Bend

No matter what you write on paper as you get deeper in the process you will find it changing and bending. That’s OK  you will probably discover something amazing in that process. So be pliable if you want to succeed change is the one thing that is forever constant.

Learn

Keep up on  current trends and what is happening in your industry or field. Study other successful people who have launched before you. Learn from their mistakes. Why would you want to repeat the mistakes they’ve already made? You can cut back your learning curve  probably in half simply by  listening to them.

Grow

Don’t be stuck in your own little box. Accept the fact that there are many things you don’t already know. Be willing to grow, adapt  and learn new techniques and strategies.

DO

This is the most important step. You can have every intention in the world but if you don’t back that intention with action all you have are a bunch of notes on paper and not a business. This is what trips a lot of people up. They are so busy learning, studying and writing that they forget to “DO”. You have to create a project that can earn income if you want to make income. Sounds a little obvious I know but many people are not doing that. So make sure that you do and you will be surprised how quickly your Idea becomes your profit.

Cyber Bullying seems to be a buzz word these days. But there is nothing exciting about it. It’s a terrible thing and it happens to children all over the world daily. A mom recently shared with me that her son was being harassed by another child in school. It’s a sad state that are public schools are in  when  children can’t go to school, feel safe and simply learn to read and write.  Instead  they get bombarded with issues that should never face a child. Of course there is also the threat of predators online. We’ve all seen the Dateline shows where a grown man lures a  younger child then shows up to cause damage to a child. No doubt the Internet is an amazing tool but it’s also become a land mine at times with our children. So what is a parent to do ? How can you know that your child is safe?

Ok someone please rescue me from the scary Youtube thumbnails. Why is it that you smile a million times and all Youtube can catch is one that looks like I’m drooling? UGH! Well oh well it’s not about me today it’s all about you. So this is a new segment I’ve added because I get tired of clickity clacking all day on my keyboard and according to my husband I flap my mouth quicker then I type so there you have it.
