My Top 3 Big Fat Business Blogging Failures

If you’ve been around my blog for a while you’ve no doubt seen a few of my success stories. What you don’t see that often are my big fat business blogging failures. I decided to share those with you today. I think it’s important because if all you ever see is “I was featured on Yahoo! Shine, I’m nominated Top 25 Tech Mom, got this interview landed this job and so on you may think I’m always rockin.  I wish.  The truth is that the success I’m enjoying with Mompreneur Mogul came after a slew of business failures. I’ve been blogging for probably over 8 years or so I’m not quite sure. If you ask my husband Chad he’ll tell you why, I’m awful with remembering dates.

Here is the story of my business failures in a nutshell. OH and another reason I thought of these when I was featured on Yahoo! a nasty commenter said ” I wish she’d tell the truth she’s owned private jets, had a wedding planner job, and other businesses I’m sure that’s how she got her money”  Boy oh boy is that funny and here is why.

I’ve been a singer for most of my life. At 19 I quit college at Eastern Michigan University and joined a band. They wanted to go to Florida where gigs prevailed. I packed up the car kissed my mom goodbye cried most of the way and started my journey. Fast forward to landing in Las Vegas where I had a very successful career as a celebrity impersonator.  If you don’t know what I mean you can click on that link and you will.

I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and I love to challenge myself. Sometimes I got tired of wearing rhinestones and wanted to start businesses.

My first attempt: Blueberry Baboon

A business consulting firm where I would do videos to promote products, have public speakers for hire ( they were amazing by the way) and many other business services.

Amount of money made with that business = Big Fat ZERO, zilch Nada. Failure #1

Second Attempt:  I saw an ad one day for a private jet broker sounded fun so I went. Turns out the guy running it was a nut case trying to take advantage of people. I did make some great connections and ended up on a private jet with my girlfriend with a “REAL” jet broker who wanted me to work for him.  The catch:  I don’t think he was interested in “work”

Amount of money made with that project?: You guessed it a big fat ZERO

Attempt number three:  I’ve been entertaining most of my life. I’ve been a leader of countless bands and shows played for major CEO’s and celebrities it’s just something that comes easy and natural.

I thought, ” Hey, I’ll be a wedding planner who books entertainment. I’m bossy it’s perfect. LOL. I had a girlfriend who runs a country club. I did book a few bands for her and made a good profit. BUT one night with one crazy bride was all it took for me to realize, no thanks. That business came to a screeching halt.

So clearly you can see I’ve had some failures. In those times I’ve cried, been frustrated, tried to find my way, and watched my husband roll his eyes when I say ,”Babe!, I have a great idea!”  Don’t get me wrong my husband Chad is a huge support, he just gets worn out sometimes with my “ideas”  and who can blame him.

On to Mompreneur Mogul. Young blog fairly new business. I’ve authored “Get Famous The most Amazing Mom Bloggers Resource On The Planet”.    ( moms are bying it daily and it’s helping them make money and I’m getting great reviews feels great) Featured on Yahoo! Shine, Nominated Top 25 Mom Tech, ( takes one second to vote for me BTW just click the link then the thumbs up that’s it) have another media interview coming up for Mother’s day, selling my books daily to moms who really want to know how to make money with their blog, found some amazing blogging girlfriends , started a blogging community on Empire Avenue, Received many toys and free products for review along with paid posts and consulting jobs.

So what? You may think?  I just want you to know that what I’m experiencing now was not always the case.  In fact I’ve had a ton of failures and so does anyone who wants to succeed. So if you’re having a “fail moment” with your blog or business right now who cares, you’re in great company. I will show you how great.

Michael Jordan and Abraham Lincoln.  It doesn’t get  much better then this.  You may have tried something that didn’t work out. That can leave you feeling like a failure. Remember the only way you will truly fail is if you QUIT. Never quit. Get up brush yourself off, shake yourself quick and say “Whew glad  that’s over.” And on the next challenge. Soon you’ll find your success will be huge and that failed blog, or business, will  just be a tiny speck in your rear view mirror!

“I have missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I have lost almost 300 games. On 26 occasions I have been entrusted to take the game winning shot, and I missed. I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
– Michael Jordan

Personally I think that blogging in niches and making money through affiliate program and ad networks is always going to be tough. I think a better approach is to start with a solid business and build great blog content around the business. So rather than the blog being the focus, have something behind the blog. We have a quote comparison tool we promote by blogging about digital marketing topics. Our last post was actually about blogging for business which you can see below.

Hey Daniel- Appreciate the comment. Some people feel as you do however the new marketers and those that are making a killer amount of money have all proven that the “old” business model is undergoing a radical change. It is now more then ever possible to create a blog that IS your business. That’s what I have done and I share that with my readers and I can tell you from experience it is NOT hard at all. It has been very simple. And the money via ads- simple also.

It’s just a brand new way of thinking and how business will be conducted. So it’s great to have a brick and mortar but it’s definitely NOT a criteria at all to have a thriving prosperous business. Not only am I an example of that but Marie Forleo out does most businesses and her entire empire- built online.

I’m glad you shared all this…I think many bloggers at some point or another feels like they’ve failed. Recently I wasn’t invited into an opportunity that I thought I had a pretty good chance of getting. I’m realizing that it’s ok that they didn’t feel I was right for it, but there is lots of other things that I will be perfect for.
