Here’s some blogging tips from me as per your email request:
1. The first few sentences in a blog post are the most important. If you don’t capture your readers attention right at the start, they’re probably not going to continue reading. If you find yourself rambling on a bit, then a good idea is to give yourself a word count for your opening paragraph (30 to 50 words), and then edit to fit. You can then do the same for the rest of your post too. Perhaps give yourself an overall word count of between 350 and 500 words to work with, and then tweak it from there
2. Whilst I love blog hops, I’ve come to realise that I prefer quality over quantity as far as my readership is concerned. I always try to have a look through all the blogs that are linked up, and those that catch my attention I will leave a comment on and subscribe to their RSS feed or social networking. When commenting I like them to know that I’ve actually read their post, so my comment makes reference to something that they have written. I am less likely to follow back someone who has left a generic comment and hasn’t actually taken the time to read anything I’ve written. I’m sure the same goes for others. I have found some wonderful blogs to follow through blog hops, so they are definitely well worth doing.
Excellent! It is really important as you said to READ what you are commenting on Seems so simple yet many don’t follow that small and valuable piece of advice. Thanks for sharing.
I agree with your blogging tips especially #2. I hop to those that catch my attention and leave a comment making the author know that I read their post. A few do this while others will just leave a quick message, not even mentioning anything about the post they are commenting on, like: “Following you from blah blah blah. Please follow me back.”
My number 1 blog tip is: make it easy for me to follow you!
Especially if you’re linking up to a blog hop. I scan through the list for blog names that catch my attention and click. The first thing I do is take a quick look around, if my interest is held and I want to read more I’ll follow… if I can find it. If I have to scroll up and down pages searching… well, I’m going to hit that little “x” and move on to another blog.
Happy hopping, everyone!
Thanks for hosting Lisa and friends!
I enjoy reading blogs and commenting. But normally I do not state that I am from such and such blog hop. I read to enjoy for an hour once a week blogs I normally do not follow.
