How One Single Event Can Increase & BlowUP Your Blog Traffic

How One Single Event Can Increase & BlowUP Your Blog Traffic

Things are finally beginning to calm down around here I think I’m in the eye of the storm. Everything on my blog has changed- forever. I want you to be encouraged because if it happened to me it can happen for you. I would like to show you a few charts so you can see how it’s possible to increase your blog traffic and change your blog forever with one single event.

Many of you know I was featured on Yahoo! Shine.  Some bad things came from it ( see my article 82 amazing comments -The Best and Worst Day Of My Blogging Life) and some amazing things.  I want to share this amazing thing.

This was my blog’s traffic the day before I went live on Yahoo.

Blog Traffic MOmpreneur Mogul

This is my blog traffic after I went live:

Massive Increase to blog trafficThe cool thing about this is as you can see I did almost triple my return visitors in one month as well. That’s great to know.

Insane right?  This doesn’t show my newsletter subscribers which also shot through the roof.

Why would I show you this?  Because I may have found the “Not so secret, secret, to a massive increase in your blog traffic.”

When I went live on Yahoo many things happened. One thing that happened is now I  receive multiple emails a day asking for help.  The main question in addition to  ”How to start a blog?”  is “How to increase traffic?”

One of the comments on my blog read like this: ” I feel like I’m killing myself trying to get traffic. I belong to forums, I post and tell people where my posts are in order to drive traffic to my site, I get a trickle but not much, what am I missing? It’s discouraging”

I get it.  I am a member of many communities. They all drive traffic to my site . However none as much as this one single event.

The famous saying goes ” Go BIG or go home.”  Let’s go big!

I am not saying you have to be on Yahoo! to get results like these.  I am encouraging you to hunt for that “special event.”

Forums, Blog Hops, Commentating on other blogs- all of those work together.  However in order to see that crazy spike in traffic something dramatic will probably have to happen.  These are just a few of them:

  • Have one of your tweets get shared by a guru with a massive following
  • Have one of your tweets go viral
  • Have a FB or G+ post get spread by a person with a massive following
  • Have a major media outlet do a piece on you and your blog ( WARNING- there could be backlash this is not for the faint at heart trust me.)
  • Guest post on an extremely well known A-list blogger
  • Run a contest that everyone wants to enter.

Traffic is an odd subject sometimes. I’ll give you an example. I have a friend she runs contests non-stop. Her entry point is a FB Like.  She went from 350 to 5000 almost overnight. “WOW!” You say.  “Not really, ask her what she thinks about it. Actually I did.”  She said ” True there are so many people that liked my page but I find when I post not too many respond.”  Aha!  What does that mean?

It means sometimes traffic is just speeding by and they stop at your light but they are still driving out of town, and sometimes they detour off your exit, park at your place and never leave.

I’d rather have the second type of traffic.  Even though my numbers above are impressive that does not mean all 14000 or so actually read my blog-  I know it will get there but I’m not too sure that is happening now.

Try not to get so hooked up on numbers. What matters most is interaction.  I was so totally grateful after reading so many depressing comments and sharing my heart on my blog to now see 82 comments of support. That was one of the best feelings in the world.

I do expect my blog to continue to grow and  I have multiple ways to achieve that goal.

  • I now have a weekly blog hop Make My Morning which will run every Monday.
  • I will be doing a Major giveaway in March for something super cool :) Details to come.
  • I will be guest posting on a major  A-List Blog in April.
  • I will launch my Ebook and have sponsored ads on major blogs.

Get creative when it comes to getting traffic. Be patient, they will come.  Most importantly keep your blinders on. It’s hard to finish your race if you are always staring at the other horses.  I hope this was helpful let me know your thoughts and by all means share some tips with the other readers.

If your blog is small don’t worry it can, and will grow big.  Try to focus on one of the points above and it will not be very long before you see an increase.  My blog is barely 3 months old.  If it happened for me I am positive it can and will happen for you.

Here is a mantra to speak over yourself ” There is no one else like me in the world. I am unique I am special I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I have creative ideas flowing at all times. I am a success. Myself and my family are happy, healthy, and blessed.”

I know from experience some people will not like what you are doing no matter how hard you try.  Don’t waste your energy.  Every minute spent on a negative person or a negative thought is a moment taken away from a person who will encourage you or a person you could help.

It is definitely discouraging at times trying to get traffic, but I have heard (or read) a lot lately to be patient and it will come. I have resolved to relax and write about what I started out for as opposed to trying to keep up with everyone else. I figure if it doesn’t bring me tons of traffic and notoriety as least it will be therapeutic as I intended and bring me joy!

    • I know it can be discouraging. But your blog is great and the traffic will come :)

  2. It does take time, but 3 months is awesome! I am so happy for those results! Thank you for including my guest post in your newsletter too!

  3. Girl, you really are getting at it! To see such an increase in traffic so quickly is insane! Way to go!

  4. Lee

thanks for the posting. This gave me a lot of ideas. I was very impressed to see your #s before I even read this.

  5. Kudos to you and your great blog! I just read your post about the nasty comments. I don’t even read the comments on a yahoo article anymore. If you check out other articles, you will find the same thing. It’s like a magnet for the lowest element to vent their vileness. You are right about forgiving them though. Jesus came to seek and save the lost, and he went to the lowest element first.

I found you through the linky follower blog hop. I’ll be following along and nary a nasty comment will you ever hear from me! Blessings to you and a big {{hug}} to take away the sting.

    • Deborah- Thank you so much. I really didn’t know but I have heard many articles have the same issue. It’s sad really. When I saw the video I was really happy because they did such a good job and then I saw the aftermath. But I have decided to forget it and just move on. I had a great day with my daughter and husband. And I would change it for anything. And it brought a lot of wonderful people like yourself to my blog for the first time :) ( well you came through Linky hop but others via Yahoo)

  6. Hi Lisa,

WooHoo! Congratulations on those big numbers!

Your blog is wonderful – I am enjoying reading it.

You give some really great tips on getting targeted traffic to your blog – subscribers are a super important traffic method as well :)

    Thanks again for sharing!

  7. Something similar happened to my blog traffic too….like quadrupled the readers..I can’t seem to find the source though? I am very happy about this … …I will take all the traffic I can get!! i would just like to thank the source!!

    • That is awesome!! :) We love that right ? I’m sure you’ll find out eventually where it came from in the meantime we’ll just enjoy :)

  8. Thanks for the tips! I’m following from the weekend hop and look forward to your posts! :)
Please stop by and follow back, if you have the time!

  9. Stopping by from the blog hop and really glad I did. Loved this post and will definitely be reading others. Thanks for the great tips!!

  10. I love it, I love it, I LOVE IT! After our email exchange the other day I stopped cold turkey. I just quit wasting time and spinning my wheels. I already knew in my heart that the traffic I desire is the traffic that stays. As you know, my blog isn’t about making money or giveaways. You said it best: it’s a ministry. My blog encourages people, motivates them to do good in the world, and inspires them to develop a deeper relationship with God. Traffic that just swings by to post just to post, doesn’t do my blog any good. I want real readers that God can speak to. I truly love you for your advice and heartfelt desire to help me figure out what my blog is truly all about. That doesn’t mean, though, that I won’t keep coming back and watching you blossom!! Be blessed. Stay hopeful!

    • Thanks Tristine :) I’m glad you found your WAY ;) And your so welcome.

  11. Very awesome and useful stuff on your blog! Glad I found it! I am now following via linky followers. Would love for you to check out my blog and follow back :)
